Mentoring Program
- Are you new to the Technical Communications field? Or do have experience you are ready to share with the new folks? Then join the LSC Mentoring Program!
The mission of the mentoring program is to provide a structured approach by which mentors from the Lone Star Community provide one-on-one assistance to protégés to help them establish themselves successfully as technical communication professionals.
Program Benefits

- Help others avoid the same mistakes you once made.
Become a protégé if you want to:
- Improve your skills as a technical communication professional.
- Receive encouragement, support, and guidance.
- Obtain advice on improving your portfolio and resume.
- Build relationships.
Mentor and Protégé Activities
The relationship between the protégé and mentor is one of mutual respect where information, questions, and ideas flow freely.
To get the most from the experience, both mentors and protégés must commit to a common goal and communicate often. Mentors and protégés have several opportunities to work together, including:
- Evaluating and critiquing the protégé’s portfolio.
- Taking the protégé to work for job shadowing.
- Accompanying each other to professional events.
- Researching various Technical Communication careers.
- Publishing articles in the Technically Write newsletter.
Mentor Qualifications
- Current member of the Lone Star Community of STC
- At least three years’ professional experience in technical communication (exceptions can be made if circumstances warrant).
Protégé Qualifications
- Current member of the Lone Star Community of STC.
- Currently pursuing a career in technical communications.
- Seeking employment within the next six months.
