Editor Corner: Title

by Jackie Damrau, Managing Editor

Jackie's photoApril is a time for celebrating several things. There's Easter for those who celebrate this time in your own way. There's Tax Day for those of us who have already or will be sending money to the government because we love doing this. (Of course, some of you may have received money, so you are vacationing on the beach somewhere.

This issue was themeless until the articles started coming in. Interestingly, they all have a networking aspect to them. Here's the highlights of what you'll find:

  • Feature article sports Rob Brown sharing how he is using LinkedIn to network his business, add contacts, and seek work using this business and social networking tool.

  • Louellen Coker's column talks about putting together a successful portfolio. She advises that you should pay special attention to the samples you include in your portfolio before placing it before a prospective employer. Having done this exact thing to gain my current position, I wholeheartedly support what Louellen tells you, so follow her advice.

  • Our April meeting brings our own Kristin, Elisa, and Arroxane to share with us how to use verbal self defense gently in our careers as technical communication professionals.

Besides all this news, you'll find all the regular columns and such.

May issue. The May issue will appear after the Annual Conference and right before our last meeting of the LSC membership year. Since the last meeting will be about successful workplace writing, send in your special writing tips or pet peeves you find in others' writing. Feel free to criticize mine as most of the time I'm writing it on the fly. Article submission deadline: April 26

Summer Edition. The Summer edition, expected out in late June, will have a complete conference review. All LSC members are encouraged to write articles reviewing the sessions you've attended or the conference experience you had. Article submission deadline: June 14

Here's to the start of Spring!
