The Lone Star Community is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. As we commemorate this milestone, we have given birth to a new community-level member recognition awardthe Binion Amerson Leadership Award.
This award recognizes an individual for having the qualities that distinguished Binion Amerson. Someone who, through sustained contributions to leadership over a period of years, displays undaunted enthusiasm, strives for challenging goals, and inspires others to participate and excel in the field of technical communication.
Why a new award? As we started discussing the 50 facets of technical communication in preparation for the upcoming Region 5 conference, we realized that our members are just as multi-faceted as our profession. The Binion Amerson Leadership Award is our way of recognizing our members who are deeply committed to the field.
How is this award different than national level awards? Well, it is different because it recognizes those who contribute a great deal to technical communication in general and our community specifically over a period of years. We will recognize those people who are consistent leaders in the community.
At our May meeting, we announced the new award and took the opportunity to recognize its namesake. We are excited that Binion will present the first recipient of this award at the STC Region 5 Conference on November 2, 2006.
So, if you know someone who...
