Strategies for Getting What You Want and Need at Work and in Your Life
by Lauren Womack, PR Manager
You may be surprised to learn you've been creating and managing proposals your whole professional life. Have you ever worked to convince the hiring manager that you're "The One"? Hoped to convince the Head Honchos to invest in that new software? Written a grant? Tried to make "The Big Sale"? If you can answer "Yes" to any of those questions, you've floated a proposal!
Proposals can be as simple as a one-page letter, as complex as five volumes of four-inch binders, or just verbally presented over lunch. But whatever their dimensions, they all have certain common elements. Every proposal tells a story intended to convince the recipient to "choose me!" How do we determine the best way to describe the situation and the solution? What do we need to develop game plans that can take us from just another game to the Super Bowl?
Come hear September's speaker Linda Greenwell, a team lead and proposal coach for the SBC Proposal Center, present Winning Proposals. We all have opportunities in business to propose something, and whether it's a sale, a new job, or simply a good ideayou want to succeed," says Ms. Greenwell. "We'll share some background, strategies, and tools that you can apply to help put you in the win column."
We'll discuss:
During her presentation Ms. Greenwell will help us:
This is your chance to peek into the playbook of a major corporation's proposal center. You may just go home with the resources you need to dazzle the next hiring manager, convince the boss to invest in the software you need, put you in the running for a grant, or write the persuasive argument that will win the next deal.
"As a technical communicator with my own business, I'm very aware of the importance and prevalence of proposals, so I am very excited for Ms. Greenwell to share her wealth of knowledge with our community!" said LSC President Louellen S. Coker. "I know our talented membership will be able to use what they learn at this meeting to make themselves and the companies they represent major players in their marketplaces!" Read that? "Talented membership" your new president means you! Come and introduce yourself to her. She'll be happy to hear any of your proposals for programs, activities, community service anything you would like your LSC Community to offer.
Ms. Greenwell has written customer-ready sales content, managed proposal teams through multi-million dollar projects, developed and refined customer-focused proposal elements such as executive summaries and cover letters, and trained sales and proposal teams in SBC locations across the United States. Additionally, she teaches proposal writing in the technical writing graduate program at UNT.
Now you know you can learn something from her, and here's your chance to learn it over dinner!
