A Proclamation by the Governor of Texas

Proclamation Hdr

As we stand in the early years of the 21st century, we face a time of unprecedented growth and technological change. The continued growth of our state's economy depends on our ability to master, foster and fully utilize scientific advancements and emerging information.
Key to this effort are the technical communicators who make this knowledge accessible to all users. Also known as "information developers" or "documentation specialists," technical communicators gather information from specialists and explain it both simply and accurately.
Covering topics in the fields of law, medicine, and software engineering among others, these hardworking professionals distribute information through a wide variety of publications including instructional materials, technical manuals and product documentation. Whether they are editors for a journal, company web designers or private writers, these dedicated men and women educate consumers, workers and others on highly technical material.
To promote the public's awareness of the important contributions of these committed specialists, the Society for Technical Communication has designated October for an educational campaign.
At this time, therefore, I urge all Texans to recognize the significant role of technical communicators, invaluable members of the professional team dedicated to furthering our ability to meet the dynamic needs of the new economy.
Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim October 2003,
