You Be the Judge

from the LSC Competitions Committee

The Lone Star Chapter of the STC needs volunteer judges to help with its Technical Publications competition. You get to perform a valuable service for your colleagues while your technical communication industry perspective is enhanced. Working with other Lone Star judges, you have the opportunity to see new techniques, design models, and ideas for developing publications. As you judge competition entries, you learn quality control guidelines that can be applied to your company or client's documentation.

Commitment

All judges must be present to pick up entries that have been assigned to you. You should allow approximately 20 hours for your review of entries for the competition (includes the time required for thoroughly examining and evaluating each document). You should also be willing to write copious constructive criticism. Entrants expect more from their entrance fee than "looks nice."

All judges are required to attend Consensus Judging day for 4-5 hours to reach consensus with other judges on your team, and to ensure publication entries/judging forms are returned to the Competition Managers.

The Lone Star Chapter will be exchanging technical publication entries with STC Atlanta Chapter. We will distribute publications to judges in October.

Consensus Judging Day will be November 22, 2003.

For more information on judge's duties, see the Lone Star Chapter web site at http://www.stc-dfw.org/pages/comp_judge.htm.

Requirements

To be a judge, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

To volunteer as a Judge

If you meet the defined criteria as shown above, complete the Judge's Application Form found at http://www.stc-dfw.org/pages/comp_judge.htm and return it to one of the competition managers email addresses as found within the form.
