Big 'D' (for Distinction) in 2003

Staff

Kathryn and Debbie Accept the AwardIn somewhat of a surprise, the Lone Star Chapter was awarded the honor of Chapter of Distinction at the annual awards banquet of the 50th STC Annual Conference.

Each year, the Chapter of Distinction Award recognizes the extraordinary efforts of one chapter in each size category. Lone Star won in the 300-600 member level. This honor, last won by the Lone Star Chapter in 1996, is the highest chapter award that the Society presents. To qualify, chapter board members, with the help of Jasmine Graham, had to demonstrate an "exceptional" record of accomplishments and activities over the past year.

By presenting programs that meet the needs of our members, holding workshops and competitions, contributing articles to Society periodicals, and being active in regional and national Society events, the Lone Star Chapter earned the citation "For continued spirit and incentive during the challenging times, for hosting and supporting the STC@50 Annual Conference, and for providing a forum for leading Lone Star chapter members to success."

Two Lone Star members received recognition in the form of the newly created Distinguished SIG Service Award:

Combined with our awards of Merit in the Chapter Newsletter Competition and in the Public Relations Competition, it's easy to see that our chapter has had a great year. Congratulations to all!
