Cowtown Corral: Electronic Redaction

By Douglas Dow

Redaction is the removal of sensitive information—the blacking out of text to protect privacy once documents become public. Done improperly in the electronic era, the results can be quite dire, not to mention embarrassing.

Attendees at the Fort Worth satellite learned this and much more from speaker Susan Barber, Western Regional Manager for Appligent, a maker of plug-ins and add-ons for Adobe® Acrobat®.

Redax® is Appligent's solution for electronic redaction in which simply drawing a black box over redacted text is not merely a cover-up. This simple action actually removes text and images from the PDF stream, replacing them with your choice of white space, black space, asterisks, ellipses, and so on.

Other products demonstrated by Ms. Barber handle document stamping, encrypting, and appending. If document security and sensitivity are issues for your company, Fort Worth was the place to be to learn about PDF solutions by Appligent.
