The Society for Technical Communication presents a program on career management.
Recognizing the need for career assessment and management in these tough economic times, the Lone Star Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication is presenting a special evening with Linda Oestreich, Director Sponsor for Region 5 (which includes the Lone Star Chapter) on Thursday, February 13, 2003. The dinner meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the DFW Harvey Hotel, 4545 W. John Carpenter Freeway (SH 114 at Esters Blvd) in Irving, Texas.
Ms. Oestreich, an STC Fellow, is a senior technical editor for BMC Software in Houston, Texas. She's been active in STC at the local and Society levels – giving presentations, writing articles and serving on committees for over 20 years. Her presentation, "Understanding Careers in Changing Times" is based on a career management model that she examined in Intercom, the society's monthly publication. "Through this presentation, you'll see that as our careers develop, their success seldom has anything to do with promotions or management positions."
"Linda is an terrific speaker," said LSC President Kathryn Poe, "Her presentation promises to be interactive featuring exercises that will engage the audience and give them something to take with them."
The February 13 meeting is open to visitors. Registration and networking begin at 5:45 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the program at 7:30 p.m. To attend, you must register by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2003. You may register by either calling 972-558-1622 or visiting the LSC website.
Costs for the dinner and program are $20 for STC and $25 for non-members. Students may attend the program at no cost.
