Book Drive a Success

By Lisa Martin, Community Service Committee Manager

Lisa Martin collects books for the book drive.Christmas 2002's Book Drive was successful! Our members donated eighty-seven books that filled four boxes: children's, children's books in Spanish, large print books, and various others. These books will be supplied to local nonprofit groups who need them. Thanks to you, many people received gifts for Christmas who otherwise might not have received anything.

The staff of Half Price Books was happy to see all of the books from the Lone Star Chapter. They thanked us for all our help and said that this donation is a big help at this time of year. I was assured that all of the books will definitely be used.

The donation division of Half Price Books is located on I-35, and on Saturdays provides a source of books for various nonprofit organizations such as hospitals, nursing homes, and churches. Books also go to the Salvation Army's Forgotten Angel program. If a child is not adopted from the Salvation Army tree or only receives a small gift, the Donation Warehouse can provide a book for a present.

The Lone Star Chapter came through with a large number of children's books and some children's books in Spanish. In this area of the country, these books are particularly important. The Donation Warehouse can always use as many Spanish books as possible. Once again, the Lone Star Chapter helped others at Christmas. Thank you for those books. I'm sure others are grateful as well.
