December Meeting Celebrates Season, Salutes LSC Heritage

By Dale Erickson

The Lone Star Chapter celebrated the holiday season with food, music, prizes, and good cheer mixed with a look back at the chapter's history.

The evening began with a collection of children's books donated to the chapter's annual book drive. The book drive is sponsored by Half Price Books, which distributes the books throughout the community.

Members and guests, dressed in holiday attire, enjoyed the complimentary food and drink. Tables featured centerpieces designed by Ann Balaban. Ann's creations were the evening's door prizes, while the largest centerpiece was sold in a silent auction in a down-to-the-wire finish to Beth Bailey.

Former presidents Marty Vick, Ann Balaban, Judy Glick-Smith, and Binion Amerson watch the video of the Atlanta skit promoting the 40th STC Annual Conference.First vice president Debbie Wiles introduced Binion Amerson and Dale Erickson who recounted LSC anecdotes related to the exhibits of chapter memorabilia. Binion's story of the skit promoting the upcoming 40th STC conference at the 1992 Atlanta conference piqued interest in the video included in the exhibit. The video featured Binion and Sue Stewart singing a stylized rendition of "Big D" with lyrics that promoted attendance of the 1993 conference in Dallas.

The evening's special guests were the chapter's past presidents. Binion invited all the presidents to reflect on their service to the chapter and how the experience affected their personal and professional lives. Past presidents included two former STC officers, Judy Glick-Smith (president) and Marty Vick (treasurer). Binion Amerson and Judy Glick-Smith also served the Society as Director-Sponsor for Region 5. Also visiting the meeting was former Director-Sponsor, Suzanna Laurent, and husband Leroy from Oklahoma.

Doug Dow on sax.Sax & Company, featuring the LSC's own Doug Dow on baritone sax, supplied swing, jazz, and seasonal music during the dining hour. The dance floor enticed several couples to sway to familiar tunes following the door prize awards. Drawing the winning door prize tickets was Jay Miller, tenor saxophonist for Sax & Company.
