On Thursday, October 10, 2002, the Society for Technical Communication's (STC) Lone Star Chapter (LSC) will host a presentation on leveraging the value of Knowledge Management skills in the workplace. The dinner meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas/Addison Hotel, 14315 Midway Road, Addison, Texas
Judith L. Glick-Smith, founder and President/CEO of Dallas-based Integrated Documentation, Inc. (IDI), will present "Knowledge Management: The Technical Communicator's Competitive Advantage." The presentation is geared toward career re-orientation and focusing upon the value of technical communicators. Whether employed or seeking employment, the program is sure to offer insight and direction to help technical communicators weather the storms of change.
"Technical communicators must know who they are, both individually and as a group. They codify knowledge and communication in forms anyone can use. They make implicit knowledge explicit," said Glick-Smith. This has long-term value for businesses. Knowledge leaves when employees leave. With Knowledge Management, technical communicators can help businesses know what they know in order to survive.
In addition to her executive position at IDI, Glick-Smith is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago and a Center Associate of the Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM), an organization dedicated to identifying and publishing best practices within the information design and development profession. Actively involved in several Dallas area professional organizations, she is also a Senior Member and Past President of the LSC and the 2002-2003 Immediate Past President of the STC.
"The Lone Star Chapter is pleased to have Judy speaking at our October meeting. I encourage everybody to come out and enjoy this presentation," said LSC President Katheryn Poe. Visitors are welcome to attend.
The October 10 meeting begins with registration and networking at 5:45 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the program at 7:30 p.m. To attend, you must register by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2001. You may register by calling 972-558-1622 or visiting the LSC website at www.stc-dfw.org.
