The Society for Technical Communication presents a panel of industry experts to answer questions about the DFW job market.

by Louise Keeton, LSC PR Committee

On Thursday, September 12, 2002, the Society for Technical Communication's (STC) Lone Star Chapter (LSC) will present a panel of experts in the industry of hiring and employment who will answer questions about survival in the current job market in the Metroplex. The dinner meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas/Addison Hotel, 14315 Midway Road, Addison, Texas

In a discussion titled "Surviving the DFW Job Market: A Q&A Session with Three Industry Recruiters," Tricia Chesley-Kelley, V.P. of Marketing and Sales for DFA Consulting, Inc.; Holly Sommers, Director of Placement Services for Click2learn, Inc.; and Wayne Rampey, V. P. of Business Development for The Insource Group, will answer questions and offer suggestions regarding the best way to approach the fluctuations in the Dallas-Fort Worth job market.

"Given the highly publicized challenges for either retaining one's current position, or being tasked with finding new employment, this discussion should help clarify some of the better ways of interviewing and finding employment," said Insource's Rampey. "Topics of networking, resume writing, interviewing tips, and ways to separate yourself from others competing for positions in a tight job market, will no doubt be covered."

"This is the first of two programs this year that focus on careers and the job market," said Kathryn Poe, LSC President. "Many of our members have been hit hard by layoffs in the high tech and telecommunications industries in the Metroplex, and we wanted to provide whatever help we can."

Poe encourages both members and guests to attend this meeting.

The September 12 meeting begins with registration and networking at 5:45 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the program at 7:30 p.m. To attend, you must register by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2001. You may register by calling 972-558-1622 or visiting the LSC website at www.stc-dfw.org.

Costs for the dinner and program are $20 for STC and $25 for non-members. Students may attend the program at no cost.
