"No way!"
"Way," replied our own Kelly Burch to the incredulous cries of those who could not believe that scalable vector graphics were coming to the Web.
Kelly, a writer who came into graphical design "the hard way" shared her tips, gained through years of trial and error. Her mastery is evident in the Lone Star Chapter web site, which she designed and mastered.
Kelly armed the 78 meeting attendees with the knowledge to decipher the terms used in digital imaging. One must make several choices: vector or raster, screen or print, GIF or JPG format. For example, screen images are treated differently from printed ones. A resolution of 72 ppi (pixels per inch) is usually all you need for screen images, which use GIF or JPG file formats. For traditional printed images, use TIF or EPS formats. Minimum resolutions start at 150-300 dpi (dots per inch).

After presenting an overview of web graphic principles, formats, and tools, Kelly demonstrated several design techniques using Adobe Photoshop Elements, a product that contains most of Photoshop's tools in a friendlier interface, without Photoshop 7.0's hefty pricetag.
