The 18th volume comes to a close with this issue. We've seen and commented on several issues, from chapter achievement to Society dues at the international level. We've attempted to spice the humdrum with humor (not always successfully).
I've learned that not every technical writer is a writer. Many are technicians that write - information architects, knowledge engineers, and so on. Others are writers who deal in technical information, the true communicators who can, from time to time, venture into the void of the blank space and share new insights or expertise, review a book or software package, share a journey (whether professional or personal), or introduce us to others in the chapter.
I'd like to thank all who contributed to the newsletter this year. I give a special salute to our chief copy editor, Paul W. Conant, who makes us all read a little better, and to beat reporter Angie Gardi, who completed her many assignments with gusto. Here are several more who made significant contributions:

Looking forward to Volume 19, with STC 50th in town, there should be lots to share. I will be Managing Editor, once again, and to supplement the quality features we receive from time to time, I'd like reporters to submit regular stories that profile members, report on actions of the council, or liven up our pages in some unique way. Here are some volunteer positions for some ambitious people:
Serve as assistant and backup to the editor. Learn online newsletter production techniques. Provide occasional copy editing.
Provide custom graphics in the form of GIF or JPG files to enhance the look of the newsletter.
Attend monthly meetings and document the mayhem that transpires there.
Happy trails to those 33% of our membership who will relocate or seek different careers during the summer. Congratulations to our own H. Brooke Hessler, who will in the fall assume the Eleanor Lou Carrithers Chair of Writing at Oklahoma City University, still in Region 5, but unable to grace council meetings in the future.
And, through the miracle of single sourcing, one more remembrance for those who perished and for those who rendered aid. Have a good, safe summer, and keep that content coming.
