Big D in 03!
By Kathryn Poe
As May approaches and many of us gear up to go the 49th Annual Conference in Nashville I want to encourage you to think even farther down the road. Next May 18 - 21, 2003 the 50th Annual conference will be right here in Dallas at the Anatole.
What does this mean to the Lone Star chapter? It means that we have a chance to make this a memorable visit to Big D! The main focus for us as the host chapter is hospitality.
Our duties will include:
- Making a list of possible companies to tour. Is your department doing anything really cool? Learned any great lessons about tools, processes or usability? Want to share it with your peers? Tell us about it!
- Developing the format for the daily newsletter. This newsletter is handed out every morning at the conference. This one is wide open for us to be creative in our design. Suggestions are welcome!
- Writing articles for the daily newsletter. Here is another chance to be creative and get in touch with your "inner journalist." Give a shout if you'd like to help!
- Develop an area on the LSC web site with local interest information that attendees can look at when planning their trip (museums, restaurants, sites of interest, and so on.) Know the perfect place to share some real TexMex with our Yankee friends? How about a lesser known museum? What is your favorite tourist spot in DFW? We'll be asking for your input so start that list!
- Develop newsletter articles about the Dallas area for potential use by chapter newsletters, SIG newsletters, and other STC publications. About that info we just talked about above, can you drop it into an article? Want to write something about the Stockyards or Deep Ellum? Here is another chance to show your pride in DFW!
- Staff the local chapter booth during the conference. Calling all friendly Texans! We need you to hang at the booth being helpful to our guests!
As you can see, there is something for just about everyone to do when the world comes to our door next year. The LSC board will be keeping you posted as things progress but please feel free to give us a shout and tell us "Hey, I want to be a part of this!" We will be asking for your help as we learn more about what is expected of us. Come and help the LSC make the 50th Annual conference one they will remember!
